Skincare for mature skin
What do our customers tell us?
Customers in our shop in Topsham and online frequently ask us how skin ages and how to make our ageing skin feel and look better.
In terms of their skin we often hear about one or more of the following from customers:
- Dry and irritated skin.
- Fine lines and wrinkles.
- Dull or flat looking skin.
- Sensitive skin.
- Dark spots, sometimes called age or liver spots.

What happens to our skin?
Women’s skin ages differently to men’s. Whereas men typically lose collagen production earlier and more consistently due to their lack of oestrogen, women have a much more dramatic loss of collagen production during the perimenopause years, leading to less elasticity and moisture over a shorter period of time than men. As we age, we don’t need more skincare products; instead we just need to make sure that the skincare we use is waterless (so it contains no chemical preservatives or emulsifiers which are required when water is present), and of the highest quality made using only organic and natural cold pressed plant oils and botanicals.
This will ensure it is naturally collagen and ceramide boosting, nutrient rich and helps to protect and nurture our skin.
Our skin is also affected by lifestyle and environmental factors such as stress, nutrition, lack of sleep as well as pollution and UV damage to name but a few. So, although skin is usually classified as mature or ageing when we reach 40 years old, there are variables here and our biological age may not match our skin age. Someone who smokes and is regularly exposed to the sun is likely to show signs of ageing earlier than someone who doesn’t.
How does our skincare help?
As we age, our skin slows in the production of natural proteins, lipids and moisture (these form our skin’s natural barrier) and this can sometimes make our skin sensitive to chemical skincare products. Our products are kind to the skin because they do not contain any synthetic chemical preservatives, emulsifiers, fragrances and other unnecessary fillers which often irritate sensitive skin. This is because our skincare is waterless and therefore does not require preservatives or emulsifiers (when water is an ingredient a product needs preservatives to prevent bacteria formation and emulsifiers to prevent it from splitting on the shelves).
As all of our ingredients are 100% organic or wild foraged, and 100% natural. They do not irritate the skin and contain intrinsic properties which help to stimulate the skin’s collagen and ceramide production.
How do our products help to stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production?
Applying natural forms of Vitamins A and C directly to the skin helps to stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen for skin elasticity.
Sufficient levels of Vitamin C are vital for our skin’s production of collagen as without it our body is unable to produce or store collagen.
Vitamin A slows down the age-related breakdown of collagen, whilst also helping to boost the skin’s collagen production. For example, you can find both Vitamin A and Vitamin C in plentiful supply in many of the oils in our ‘You Must be Sisters’ Facial Oil.
Our recommended skincare routine
We recommend that you switch to using natural and organic skincare products.
Recommended day and night facial routine for anyone with mature skin:
- Wash your face with chamomile or nettle soap.
- Apply a couple of spritzes of Botanical Balance (or a dash of tap water).
- Follow this with a few drops of one of our facial oils (You Must be Sisters to boost collagen and ceramide production, SOS Recovery for dry or irritated skin. You can mix and match the oils depending on what you feel your skin needs. Many of our customers use You Must Be Sisters in the morning as it gives their skin a healthy glow throughout the day, and then they use SOS Recovery in the evening before bed.
- Whilst using our products we suggest that you don’t use any other products, in case they may be irritating your skin, so you can really tell if they work. If your skin isn’t sensitive to essential oils you could also use our Immortelle Everlasting Radiance Facial Balm from time to time as an ultra-luxurious hydration boost to your skin. It is also great for on-the-go and the minis fit easily into your bag or handbag.
Recommended body routine:
- Wash your face with either our Calming Chamomile or Nettle Settle soap bar.
- Follow up with Soothe and Smoothe Body oil for daily moisturising and Saving Grace Body Balm on any particularly dry areas such as heels, knees and arms.
- We have heard from many of our customers that most of the time their skin is much drier than before and more sensitive, and so the products they find most effective are ones which address this.

This facial oil is perfect for my mature skin. I am on my second bottle and I have the next one ready - Nikki P, You Must Be Sisters Facial Oil
This is now the second full size bottle of your Nourishing Body Oil that I have purchased and I honestly can say it is the best oil I have ever come across. I have a mature skin and have seen an increase of firmness especially in my arms. It absorbs fast and leaves a great smell. Thank you Coraline for such a great product! - Amanda T - Soothe & Smooth Body Oil
I came across Coraline Skincare quite by chance. I was very impressed by the Company ethos and decided to try Glow to Bed. My order arrived promptly and I liked the environmentally friendly packaging and was touched by the hand written welcome note and complementary soap. The products are very different to any other skincare I've used and took a bit of getting used to - but I'm hooked, they're wonderful and I've just ordered the products again! I particularly love the Lavender Cleansing Balm and You must be Sisters Facial Oil as my 'mature' skin feels really soft and nurtured after using them - Lyn H
