What happens to our skin?

There are many terms used to label skin issues from eczema to dermatitis to psoriasis and often they crossover. Ultimately it is often simpler to think about the skin being out of balance.

Eczema can occur for both adults and children and can be mild and disappear on its own, or it can be severe and debilitating and cause distress, both physical and emotional to those experiencing it, and those around them. If you don't experience it yourself, I am sure that you have a loved one or friend who does.

Many children grow out of it, or have occasional flare-ups at e.g. times of stress as an adult, and for others it can last a lifetime. It is unusual to develop eczema after 60; if this occurs it can be due to a medical condition so please do seek medical advice.

Skin can take days, or weeks to recover from an eczema flare-up, with skin appearing thickened and red or even purple. Skin can be constantly itchy and sensitive to clothing.

How do Coraline Skincare products help eczema?

We don't claim to have all the answers, nor do we claim we can heal everyone who is experiencing eczema as it can sometimes be caused by allergies and internal reasons but we do have very good experience in helping people.

A good first step is to remove any potential irritants which could be drying and causing the skin to become inflamed, and then add back in skincare which is free from any potentially harmful chemicals and helps to work in harmony with the skin.

Our products are gentle and kind to the skin which can help to repair and replenish dry, cracked and irritated skin, and whatever happens we are confident our products will do only good things if you have eczema. In many cases people have found our products to be beneficial in reducing their eczema, and in a lot of cases to heal their skin entirely

Our dream is to relieve as much of your pain as possible using the powers of natural ingredients which have skin barrier repairing and anti-itching properties. And to bring back the simple pleasures of life.  We have a proven track record in doing this for many people over the last few years.

We must also say that some cases of eczema can be severe and systemic, and will require an in-depth investigation into what is causing it and, in these cases, our skincare will not always be able to make a huge difference.  It can still have a positive impact but we have seen that you have to address the underlying cause of the inflammation and irritation.  This can often take time, effort and lifestyle changes.

Keep a food and drink diary and see if you can identify any triggers that cause flare-ups.   Try journalling to see if you are feeling particularly stressed.  Or see a naturopath or medical professional to look into what might be happening in your gut.

Meditation is fantastic to reconnect with your body and learn to listen to your intuition as to what could be causing the stress.

Imagine feeling (or your loved one who has eczema feeling):

  • Itch-free
  • Energised after a good night’s sleep as your skin does not feel         so sore
  • Conversations no longer dominated by eczema
  • Everyone getting a better night’s sleep - depending on who has       eczema in the family
  • Feeling more confident at work
  • Feeling more confident socially
  • Being able to wear what you like as you’re happy to show your         skin, and clothes do not feel so rough on your skin
  • Popping on a bag strap or a seatbelt and skin feeling fine                   underneath it
  • Truly feeling happy in your own skin (this is our vision as a small       business)
  • A routine which feels luxurious, is natural and is not medicated.
  • No longer having to use and try out multiple creams and lotions.
  • Using soap bars again, trusting them and not avoiding them
  • Just having one soap bar to clean your body and face which           both helps the skin to repair itself and doesn’t cause                           inflammation. If you have a toddler with eczema you can try             washing their hair with the soap, as we have done for Coraline.
  • Able to have a hot shower. Our soap is so moisturising you                 don’t need to worry that a hot shower will dry out your skin.
  • Happy to have a product where a little goes a long way and             you don’t need to apply and re-apply huge amounts
  • Trust. No more time researching

What is different about Coraline Skincare products for eczema?

They feel indulgent: Being 100% natural, our products don’t smell medicinal. Instead, they create a luxurious skincare routine.

They work in harmony with your skin: Our products are all made using natural ingredients, which help to hydrate and nourish eczema- prone skin, softening flare ups and healing rough, itchy and sore skin. Containing a combination of oils, our products can help to deliver an array of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants to your skin, helping your skin to look and feel healthier.

Trust: Our products are natural and they are all formulated and handmade by Kevin so you can trust what is in them as he is passionate about the purity of the ingredients. There is no gluten or dairy in our skincare products which can also trigger eczema.

No chemicals: Our products are kind to the skin because they do not contain any chemical preservatives which may irritate eczema-prone skin. This is because our skincare is waterless and therefore does not require preservatives (when water is an ingredient a product needs preservatives to prevent bacteria formation).

One product only: Our customers with eczema often tell us they use emollients on their skin - these don’t add moisture to the skin, they stop skin losing moisture. Our soap bars, oils and balms both add moisture to the skin, and help repair the skin barrier to stop the skin losing moisture.

Customers tell us they use emollients when their skin is dry and rough and steroids when it is red and itchy and that they have to keep using them beyond visible healing and they find that they wear the skin away and thin the skin.

Our recommended skincare routine

We recommend that you switch to using natural and organic skincare products.

Whilst using our products, we recommend that you don’t use any other products, in case they may be irritating your skin, so you can really tell if they work.

Recommended day and night facial routine for eczema-prone skin:

Wash your face with our Calming Chamomile or Nettle Settle Soap Bars. Some people are able to wash their hair with the soaps! It depends on the individual. We have washed Coraline's hair with it since she was a baby.

Apply a spritz of Botanical Balance Facial Tonic (or a dash of tap water).

Follow by a few drops of one of our facial oils (You Must be Sisters to reduce inflammation and repair the skin barrier, SOS Recovery to soothe and hydrate skin and to help alleviate itching, or Keep the Peace for oily/combination eczema-prone skin).

You can mix and match the oils depending on what you feel your skin needs.

Recommended body routine:

Wash your hands/body with our Calming Chamomile or Nettle Settle Soap Bars.

Follow up with Soothe and Smooth Body oil onto damp skin (ideally straight after shower) for daily moisturising, and apply Saving Grace Body Balm as neccesary on any particularly dry areas such as heels, knees and arms.

You can also use a few dabs of Saving Grace Body balm on persistent dry and rough areas of skin on your face.

Hear from our customers...

Many of our customers with eczema tell us that most of the time their skin is much drier and more sensitive during a flare up, and so the products they find most effective are ones which address this. We have heard that using our body balm Saving Grace can ease the symptoms of eczema, nourishing and soothing the skin.
