Your 5 summer skincare questions answered

This week we thought we'd share the answers to some of the questions we are asked most frequently about summer skincare.

At this time of year customers are curious about the impact of UV damage on their skin, how to store our products in a heatwave and are looking for tips on their summer skincare routines as they head off on holiday.

Below, Coraline Skincare founder Kevin answers five of these hot topics and if you have any questions please do email hello@coralineskincare.com and we can answer those too!

Do any of your products protect against UV damage?

No! It is imperative to always wear a full-spectrum sunscreen, which should be worn even on cloudy days!

However it is interesting that some oils do have a level of natural protection.

Pomegranate seed oil found in our SOS Recovery facial oil and Immortelle Everlasting Radiance facial balm has natural protection abilities, shielding skin from UV and free-radical damage.

While Acai seed oil found in our You Must Be Sisters facial oil is abundant in Vitamin C which protects from UV damage.

Are your facial and body oils OK to wear in the sun?

In short, yes, underneath your sunscreen! Our oils absorb quickly into the skin and can be used as part of a morning skincare routine. They can help protect the skin from UV damage (as described above), just don't forget to add your sunscreen as a final step to your skincare routine!

Are any of your products good for hyperpigmentation (patches of skin which are darker than the surrounding skin, also known as 'age spots' or 'sun spots')?

Rosehip fruit oil found in our You Must Be Sisters facial oil and Immortelle Everlasting Radiance facial balm contains Vitamin A, which can help reduce hyperpigmentation, commonly caused by excess melanin, forming dark spots or patches on the skin.

Do I need to protect my Coraline Skincare products from daylight/heat in summer?

Our balms contain botanical oils and plant butters, which can soften in direct heat and change texture - so it is always best to keep them somewhere cool and dark. On very hot days you can refrigerate them. Be careful about having them in your handbag on a very hot day or they may melt in the tub. Top tip - if you are bringing them out, you can refrigerate them first. Our Botanical Balance facial tonic is really refreshing if spritzed straight from the fridge!

Our oils are packaged in biophotonic Miron glass which actually protects your products from harmful rays, while allowing beneficial visible violet and non-visible UVA to enter. These rays slow down molecular decay, making our products longer lasting whilst preserving their quality and potency.

When will you be developing as sunscreen ( SPF), or are there any that you currently recommend?

Watch this space! We have a mineral-based SPF in development at the moment, which we hope to launch in 2024 or sooner if it is ready! Kevin is still looking to find a vegan and organic sunscreen which has an ingredient list he is happy with. Let us know if there is one you recommend!
